From September there are a number of resources, specifically designed for teachers of Key Stages 1, 2, 3, 4 and Further Education groups, which will be available on the My Learning website.

Visit My Learning website (link opens in a new window)

On the My Learning website, you can download -

  • background information on the exhibition, featured designers, specific works and related images
  • suggestions for themes, ideas, techniques and processes which relate to the exhibition and which can be explored in school
  • worksheets and activities to be used on a school visit to the exhibition
  • suggestions for practical activity and extended project work back in school (primary school teachers)
  • activities which make up schemes of work lasting approximately half a term, relating to the three artist-led session themes (secondary school and Further Education teachers)

Teaching resources explore the same three themes as the artist-led sessions.

Artist-led sessions

These half-day sessions take place within the exhibition and explore looking, thinking and making skills. All sessions are suitable for a whole class group. Dates and times of sessions can be arranged with individual schools. Please note there is a charge for primary schools of £2 per child, with a minimum charge of £30.

  • Design inspiration
Looking at designs inspired by nature and the urban landscape, pupils will explore the design process from initial inspiration to creating a final ‘repeat pattern’ design

  • Pattern and paint
Looking at the relationship between fabric design and fine art painting, pupils will explore how Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art inspired and influenced textile design. Pupils will have the opportunity to design their own painting-inspired patterns

  • Design goes Pop!
Focusing on the furniture in the exhibition and some of the more Pop-inspired fabrics, this session will look at the ‘swinging 60's’ aesthetic and the fun of colour, pattern and shape in the home. Pupils will design their own contemporary interior which says as much about the noughties as Pop did about the 60s
