Broken Dreams

A short film adapted from Hull crime writer Nick Quantrill’s debut novel ‘Broken Dreams’.

Private Investigator Joe Geraghty meets a client at the Hull Pierhead, hoping to gather information on a missing person case he is investigating. Instead, he gets a lesson on the history of the waterfront and an ex-trawlerman’s views about the future of the city.

The film is by Dave Lee (director of much-praised Philip Larkin shorts ‘Here’ and ‘Bridge For The Living’) and narrated by Hull-born actor Paul Popplewell (‘Tyrannosaur’, ‘Black Mirror’).

If you could write your own Great Expectations how would it turn out?

Taking the themes from Dickens' novel as a springboard Cascade Arts are producing a short three part audio drama examining three stages in a persons life and the decisions they have made leading up to that point.

The week before the festival, a short 'interactive fiction' will be available on the Cascade Arts website.

Three episodes of the drama will be available for download from the Cascade Arts website on each Saturday of the festival, starting Saturday 16 June. After each episode an 'interactive fiction' will be available which enables you to influence the choices the character makes - and the ultimate direction of the story.

This is a free activity and is suitable for people aged 12 or over.
