In certain cases we may need to deduct money directly from your earnings, benefits or Pension Credit.
The process
We send you a letter, with a copy to your employer or benefits agency. The letter instructs that the debt is to be cleared by deduction from wages/salary, or Income Support, Job Seekers Allowance, Pension Credits or Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) on a scale fixed by law.
If you are on Income Support, Income based Job Seekers Allowance, Pension Credit or ESA and we feel it is appropriate, we can apply to the Department for Work and Pensions for amounts to be taken directly from your benefits. The amount we can currently take will be £3.25 per week from April 2009.
If you are employed, an attachment of earnings could be made.
Please note, once an attachment of earnings has been set up it will not be cancelled unless payment is received in full.
