Clipper, Jazz and Maritime festival weekendThe John Harrison race at the Clipper 09-10 race finish in Hull

Tens of thousands of people visited Hull Marina to celebrate the return of the of the Clipper 09-10 Round the World Yacht Race fleet and enjoy Hull's Jazz and Maritime festivals.

Estimates of 50,000 visitors were on the marina during the course of the day, with more across the city centre and also lining the routes along the Humber and the coast to see the boats.

The exciting John Harrison Race - so named to celebrate the man who solved the problem of longitude with the invention of the marine Chronometer - saw the colourful fleet fight for position on the Humber as the last part of the 35,000-nautical mile journey.Yokrshire clipper in New York

Hull and Humber took the trophy, but were fourth placed over all in the round the world race.

This was followed by an inspiring display by the Red Devil Freefall Parachute Display Team.
