Welfare support

We support vulnerable people living in Hull through our welfare support service. We offer advice and support to help people live independently. We can help people who own or rent their own homes, as well as council tenants. We give advice and support on -

  • budget advice and assistance
  • social skills
  • advocacy
  • advice and assistance with benefit claims
  • debt advice and money management
  • homemaking
  • confidence building
  • access to training and employment
  • general advice and support

You could be referred to us from another organisation or you can contact us yourself if you are over 16 years old. We can support people for up to two years. We also work with other agencies to give you the best support we can.

The service is funded by a government initiative called Supporting People and will cost you nothing.

Welfare support self assessment

The welfare support self assessment form allows people who need housing related support to know quickly and simply whether they can expect to get support from the welfare support service. This support is provided free for people to use, the service is funded in full by Supporting People.

The form is designed to assess how your support needs affect your day to day life. You can complete this form yourself or with people you trust – your family, friends, carer, advocate, social care worker etc. If required the welfare support service duty officer can help you fill in the form over the telephone. Please see the contact details page at the end of the form for information.

When completed please return the form to the address on the contact information sheet at the end of the form. You will then be contacted by letter to let you know if you are eligible for support and if so when you can expect to see a support officer for your first contact session. If the welfare support service is unable to offer you a service at this time you will be advised of the reasons why and given details of other agencies that may be able to help with your support needs. You will also be advised at this stage of the appeals process against the decision made.
