About Hull
From the city that has brought you everything from LCD technology and world-class poets such as Andrew Marvell and Philip Larkin to Yorkshire Puddings and boiled sweets, we're quickly taking our place as one of Yorkshire's hotspots.
We celebrate our rich maritime history and reputation of being leaders in pursuing social justice - to honour one of our most famous sons, William Wilberforce, who fought a long campaign to bring about the Abolition of the Slave Trade Act.
Regeneration in the city
There's a real buzz about the city as Hull continues to make huge strides forward in terms of its regeneration.
Over the past few years Hull has welcomed the completion of a number of key projects. These include the Kingston Communications Stadium, home of Hull City AFC and Hull FC rugby teams, the St Stephen's development, a £200 million retail-led scheme which has added more big name stores, the Albemarle Music Centre and a new home for the widely acclaimed Hull Truck Theatre.
Our beautifully restored award-winning transport interchange, opened by the Queen last year, delivers 24,000 people to our city centre shops each day.
Situated on Hull's spectacular waterfront, Humber Quays is rapidly taking shape and has quickly established a reputation for being the city's most exclusive business address having attracted high profile companies such as The Royal Bank of Scotland, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Barclays Commercial, World Trade Centre Hull & Humber and Chameleon Business Interiors.
Events and the social scene
Our rapidly developing social scene coupled with an exciting programme of events, highlights of which have recently included the hugely successful Global Food Festival, Freedom Festival, maritime and jazz festivals.
With the addition in 2009/10 of being the starting and finishing port for the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, we are becoming one of the most exciting waterfront locations in the UK.
In a city that is full of life and energy, there is always something happening and for those who sometimes just like to get away from the city, we are within minutes of some of the UK's most beautiful countryside and stunning coastline.
Property expert Sarah Beeny, famous actress Maureen Lipman and renowned playwright John Godber all share something in common - they think that Hull and East Yorkshire is an excellent place to live. Find out their reasons why by viewing this short film.
