 | Hull Accredited Landlord Scheme (HALS)
The Hull Accredited Landlord Scheme gives accreditation status to landlords in the private rented sector who agree to work to a code of management and meet certain housing standards. The main aims of the scheme are to -
- improve the quality of accommodation available in the private rented sector without the need for enforcement action
- improve the management of accommodation available in the private rented sector
- set and monitor housing standards in the private rented sector
- protect the health and safety of people renting private housing

 | Information for landlords
If you are a landlord and would like to apply to join the scheme, you can download a copy of the application form here. There is no fee and if you are accepted into the scheme, you will receive certain benefits such as -
- exemption from immediate inspection following a service request from a tenant, unless urgent
- discounts for licensing fees, pest control and drainage services
- grants towards the cost of installing central heating
- permits for the use at Wilmington waste station subject to obtaining waste carriers licence
- free use of waste recycling plants with commercial vehicle (there are limits to size of vehicle), subject to obtaining a waste carriers licence
- priority for interest free loans for bringing empty properties back into use and to bring rented houses up to the Decent Homes Standard
- advice and training
- provision of reclaimed refuse bins, subject to availability

Information for tenants
If you are a tenant, by choosing to rent a property from one of the landlords who have been accredited you can feel confident that -
- landlords will carry out repairs in a reasonable timescale
- accommodation should be of a good standard
- landlords will behave in a professional manner
- landlords will give proper notice before entering your accommodation
