Two year old funding

Hull City Council offers two year old early education to the most disadvantaged families in the City.


Every child successful in accessing two year old funding will receive 15 hours per week for 38 weeks per year, during term time.

The funding must be taken over a minimum of two days with a maximum of six hours in one day from a childcare provider approved to provide two year old early education.

When to apply for two year old funding

Applications need to be received before the start of term for places to be decided.

Every child successful in accessing two year old funding will start receiving the funding the term after the child’s second birthday.

Term Dates
Spring 1 January – 31 March
Summer 1 April – 31 August
Autumn 1 September – 31 December


If your family are in receipt of at least one of the following benefits you may be entitled to two year old funding -

  • Income Support
  • Income based Job Seekers Allowance
  • Income related Employment and Support allowance
  • Support under part six of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The guarenteed element of State Pension Credit 
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you are not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
