Eligible age for starting school

If your child was born between 1 September 2010 and 31 August 2011, then your child is due to start full time attendance in the reception year of a school in the 2015-2016 school year.

All children will be able to start at their allocated school full time at the beginning of the autumn term. You can delay your child’s full time admission until later in the school year if you wish. Details of deferred entry can be found in the guide to starting primary school 2015-16.

You must inform the school your child has been allocated to if you intend to defer entry to later in the academic year. If you wish to defer your child’s entry to the following academic you will need to reapply for a place in year 1.

How to apply for  a primary school place if you live in Hull

All parents have to apply for a primary school place using either the online application form or a paper form which can be downloaded from the link below. Alternatively a form can be obtained from nurseries, children’s centres, Hull libraries or by calling 01482 300 300.

If you live in Hull you must use the Hull City Council online application system, or the paper form, even if the school you’re applying for is outside Hull.

Similarly, if you live outside Hull but want a place at a Hull school, you must apply using your home authority’s online system or form. This arrangement has been introduced nationally and all local authorities will ensure that applications for places at schools outside their areas are passed on to the appropriate authority.

Most areas of Hull fall within the catchment area of a primary school. Make sure you know which your catchment area school is, as children living within a school’s catchment area are given a high priority for places at their local school.
 
If you live in a school catchment area, we strongly recommend that you name your catchment area school or a school near where you live as one of your preferences. If you do not there is a chance that your child could be allocated a school some distance from your home.

Applications for primary school places must be received by Thursday 15 January 2015.

How to apply if you live outside the Hull City Council boundary

If you wish to apply for a school place in Hull and you do not live in the Hull City Council boundary, you must apply for the school place using your local authority’s application process.

Your application will be forwarded to Hull to determine whether your child qualifies for a place at the Hull school or schools. Your home authority will then determine which one school place your child should be given.

Late applications

If your application is received after the after the closing date of 15 January 2015 unless there are exceptional circumstances your application will be considered as late. The allocation of late applications will be completed after those that were received on time.

Any changes of preference received after the closing date of 15 January 2015 will be considered as a late application unless the change is considered to be unavoidable in the opinion of the admissions authority.

Confirmation of school places

Letters are sent to parents confirming school allocations and offering the right of appeal where necessary, on 16 April 2015. If you have applied online an email will be sent to your email address on 16 April 2015 in addition to the letter sent to your home address.
