Researching your family history

If you are interested in researching your family history, we have a range of resources to help uncover the secrets of the generations that came before you.

You can get started now with our beginners tips and guide to online research resources, but sooner or later you will need to research from original documents and other sources, many of which can be found at Hull History Centre.

Our family history courses will teach you basic research skills and tell you more about the resources available to you at the history centre.

If you are an adopted person, or need help to find adoption records, our Hull Adoption team can help with advice, counselling and practical help.

Copies of birth, death or marriage certificates relating to Hull from 1837 onwards are available from Hull Registration Service at The Wilson Centre.
