Close Knit exhibition comes to Maritime Museum - 02/07/2013
An exciting exhibition will open at Hull's Maritime Museum this August, complete with a touch of Hollywood glamour.

The exhibition, called Close Knit: The Art of the Gansey, combines knitting, textiles and maritime heritage where old meets new.

It will include a wide range of quality ganseys from Yorkshire and Scotland and contemporary textile and knitwear designs inspired by ganseys. Their heritage will also be part of this fascinating exhibition.

A gansey belonging to actor Daniel Day Lewis will also be on display.

Robin Diaper, Curator of Maritime & Social History said:

"Many people have worked hard and contributed to this charming exhibition, from our dedicated volunteers who have knitted local examples, through to the talented students at Hull School of Art & Design.

"I hope people will come along and discover its rich heritage".

The exhibition has been created by Hull's Maritime Museum in partnership with the Moray Firth Gansey Project and Hull School of Art & Design and will run Saturday 2 August to Sunday 24 November.
