Leonardo da Vinci Lecture programme is announced - 18/09/2012
Hull City Council's Ferens Art Gallery will host a prestigious exhibition from the Royal Collection this autumn: Ten drawings by Leonardo da Vinci, A Diamond Jubilee Celebration.

The exhibition opens to the public on Saturday 10 November 2012 and runs until Sunday 20 January 2013.

The exhibition will be complemented by a lively programme of 5 public lectures. The first speaker on the preview night will be the exhibition curator Martin Clayton, Senior Curator of Prints and Drawings from the Royal Collection who will discuss Leonardo's drawings in context. Martin is a well-known da Vinci expert and has published a number of books on the artist, including: Leonardo da Vinci: The Mechanics of Man and Leonardo da Vinci: Anatomist.

A further highlight will be provided by internationally renowned Leonardo da Vinci expert, Martin Kemp, the author of Leonardo, Christ to Coke and most recently How Image Becomes Icon. Professor Kemp will draw on research from the latter to link the Ferens two exhibitions Andy Warhol ARTIST ROOMS and Ten Drawings by Leonardo da Vinci, in an intriguing talk titled: The Mona Lisa: From Leonardo to Warhol

Councillor Terry Geraghty, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture comments:

"We're very excited to be able to bring Leonardo da Vinci to Hull. The drawings provide a fascinating body of work, which will be extremely popular."

"The lecture programme, kindly sponsored by Aberdeen Enterprise Finance Ltd, will be a great opportunity for visitors to learn more about one of the greatest artists of all time. We expect tickets for the talks to be in very high demand."
