Team GB players prepare for European table tennis battle in Hull - 12/09/2012
Fresh from the Olympics, Team GB table tennis players will be serving up fierce competition playing for England in their battle to qualify for the European championships at Hull City Hall.

The event on Tuesday 18 September 2012, starting at 6.15pm, will see top class international table tennis return to Hull.

England will face Romania on home turf as they do battle as part of their qualification for the European Championships.

Two separate matches, one featuring women and another featuring men, will be staged, with the majority of the England players having recently competed for Team GB in the London 2012 Olympics.

Romania is also expected to field a strong side with several of their players currently ranked within the world top 10.

To compliment the event Hull City Council and English Table Tennis Association (ETTA) will bring Ping! back to Hull with sessions in Princes Quay in September:

- Saturday 15 September 11am to 4pm
- Sunday 16 September 11am to 2pm
- Saturday 22 September 11am to 4pm

People who attend Princes Quay can try their hand at table tennis while getting the chance to speak to representatives of ETTA to find out more about the international event and Hull table tennis clubs.

Councillor Geraghty, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, said: "It's great to see table tennis back in Hull and more Olympic stars coming to the city.

"We hope people will come and try the sport at sessions in Princes Quay during September, and also attend the championship event at the City Hall to back the England team on their quest to qualify for the European Championships.

"The event offers yet another opportunity for residents to get involved in sport in the Hull 2012 Gold year."

Tickets cost from £3 - £6 and can be purchased from the Hull City Hall Box Office, the Wilson Centre on Alfred Gelder Street, via phone on 01482 300 300 or online at www.hullcc.gov.uk/hullcityhall
