Twenty four year eight pupils from six Hull secondary schools are launching their Andy Warhol inspired work today (Tuesday 11 September) at the Ferens Art Gallery.

ROOMS On Tour, Andy Warhol. Attendees will include young people, teachers, parents and artists who worked on the project.

Between the 15 - 29 June, 24 Year eight pupils from six Hull secondary schools took part in "Andy's Factory", a five day specialist arts project inspired by ARTIST ROOMS: Andy Warhol, currently on display at the Ferens Art Gallery. The six schools that have taken part are: Sirus Academy, Newland School for Girls, St Mary's College, Andrew Marvell, Thomas Ferens Academy and Sydney Smith.

Councillor Terry Geraghty, Portfolio holder for leisure and culture, said:

"The Andy Warhol exhibition has sparked many peoples imaginations and has been a very popular exhibition. Its great that these young people have been able to get involved with this project and they have produced some excellent pieces of work.

The project, led by Heritage Learning in partnership with The School of Art and Design, Hull College enabled young people to develop their own creative ideas and artwork inspired by the ARTIST ROOMS collection of Warhol works. Young people were supported by practicing artists and college staff and given access to equipment and techniques not available in school.

The current economic climate is a difficult environment in which young people are making decisions about their future careers. This aim behind the project was to give young people an insight into creative career paths and the routes they need to take to achieve their goals, showing them that creativity counts Students met other young people from across Hull, getting a taste of life at college and what it takes to be an artist or designer, helping them to make informed choices for their future progression.
