Portfolio Holder welcomes application for Reality Energy Centre - 01/08/2012
A planning application has been submitted to Hull City Council for building the Reality Energy Centre in the Port of Hull, a £130 million development project producing 49 Mega Watts of 'green' electricity and bringing significant employment opportunities to the area.

The application has been lodged by the project's developer, Real Ventures (Hull) Ltd.

The Centre will provide between 200 and 250 jobs during a 30 month long construction period and 35 long term, permanent posts during the plant's subsequent 25 year operational lifespan. Subject to planning permission being granted, work would begin on site early in the New Year.

The plant will be fired by woody biomass fuel, imported by ship from sustainable sources directly to the Centre's three hectare site at King George Dock. It will conform to strict standards for controlling flue gas emissions and noise.

Councillor Steven Bayes, Portfolio Holder for Economic Regeneration and Employment said: "The news that Real Ventures has submitted its planning application for its Biomass plant - a key milestone in the process - is a step forward and if approved will further reinforce Hull's position at the forefront of the low carbon economy.

"Hull is rapidly developing as both an offshore and green energy hub and we will offer all assistance to projects such as this to the mutual advantage of the company, the city and the wider region."
