Boys and girls will come out to play this week as National Play Day takes place on Wednesday 1 August.
From 11am until 3pm, Queens Gardens will become an outdoor playground where children, young people and families having a fun filled day and take part in the annual celebration of children's right to play.
The theme for this year's Play Day is Build it! This encourages children and families to get creative and build things such as dens, rockets or a sound garden for very little cost but with the chance for imaginations to run riot.
All of the activities are free and there'll be endless opportunities to build, make create, bounce, run, jump and play. The event is organised in partnership with Hull City Council, Hull Creative Play Network and its partners.
For National Play Day 2012 there will also be a competition where children and young people will be encouraged to dress up in red, white and blue as we celebrate a fantastic summer of sport. Prizes will be awarded throughout the day to the best dressed.
Additional attractions on offer at Playday will include scrap workshops, play rangers, messy play, fair rides, and many more hands-on play activities for children and young people of all ages.
Councillor Helene O'Mullane, Portfolio Holder for Children's Services, said:
"National Play Day is great at encouraging families to come together and remind them how special it is when they spend time together having fun.
"There are lots of fun activities taking place in the city centre, and they are all free, so I hope lots of families will come along."
Naomi Bedworth, Treasurer for Hull Creative Play Network, added:
"National Play Day will be a great way for families to 'get back to basics' with play time and find cheap and fun ways to spend time together. We'll be showing families how they can have fun making dens, playing dress up and loads of other hands on play ideas."
