Pupils from Hull's primary schools who took part in Hull City Council's Bikeability scheme were entered in to a prize draw for their chance to win a fantastic prize - a brand new mountain bike.
The winner of the prize draw will be presented with the bike on Tuesday 31 July at Woodford Leisure Centre. The winner, Andrew Sawdon is a year six pupil from Bellfield Primary School and he is unaware of winning the competition. Receiving the bike has been done in secret with his mum, Tina and will be a complete surprise to him!
The Bikeability scheme is delivered free to Hull's primary schools by First Step Sports in partnership with Hull City Council.
Many children have already taken part in the cycle safety training and have been entered in to a prize draw for their chance to win a mountain bike and accessories as well as a day pass to the Summer Camp delivered by First Step Sports.
The cycle training to pupils will restart in September when children and young people return back to school and pupils who take part will be entered in another a prize draw at the end of the year.
Allan Robins, Hull City Council's Road Safety Officer, said:
"The safety of children is paramount and the highest quality of cycle training is delivered to Hull's primary schools. These skills will hopefully stay with them for life making our roads safer. I hope Andrew will enjoy using it and encourage others to stay safe whilst cycling."
Claire Mudd, Headteacher at Bellfield Primary School, said:
"The Bikeability programme has not only been a fantastic experience for the children but has taught them an invaluable life skill. Our children have completed the course feeling confident about using the road safely and this is welcomed by the parents'.
"Anything we can do as a school to ensure our children are able to make safe choices for the future is regarded as a high priority and an absolute 'must' for all children.
"We hope to continue with this successful programme in the coming years."
