On Thursday 2 August Hull City Council will host the Street Games festival in partnership with Hull FC Community Foundation.
The event will be held at the iconic venue, Bonus Arena in West Park and is hoping to build on the success of last year when over 250 young people from around the city took part in the free multi sport activity festival. This year is due to be even bigger with a fantastic central venue and twice as many sports on offer!
The aim of the festival is to engage with 13-18 year olds, celebrate the current Street Games projects, of which there are 22 in Hull (nine more than last year), raise awareness of the Street Games brand and encourage a range of young people from different backgrounds to come together to take part in sport.
Councillor Geraghty, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture said:
"Sport can change lives and improve communities and Hull's Street Games programme helps to do just that. Delivered by local people for local young people, ensuring access to quality sports activities in local communities which are fun, friendly and which help inspire young people to keep active and engage in their communities in a positive way."
The day is completely free and will consist of over 10 different sports for people to try, including a variety of sports included in the Olympics for example; Athletics, Football, Basketball and Trampoling and more alternative ones like Skateboarding and Street Dance.
Activities start at 4pm and will run until 8pm, with participants receiving a free t-shirt and drink upon arrival. To book yourself onto the event and to find out about free transport arrangements call Anthony Thackeray 01482 327 200 anthony.thackeray@hullfc.co.uk
