As Hull continues to join in with activities during this great sporting year, Hull City Council and its partners are delighted to announce that Sky Ride is coming back to Hull.
Following the recent announcement that Sky Ride Hull is coming back to the city on 19 August following on from last year's resounding success, Sky Ride Local is also making a return too. Sky Ride Local are smaller led rides run every weekend in partnership with Hull City Council, Sky and British Cycling.
There are 30 Sky Ride Local rides ranging from Ride Easy and Ride Steady which are suitable for all ages, through to Ride Well and Ride Strong for ages 16 and over (or age 11+ for Ride Well and age 13+ if accompanied by an 18+ adult). This year there is the addition of five Ride Strong Plus rides. All Sky Ride Local events are run by British Cycling trained leaders from Hull.
The Sky Ride Local rides will officially launch on Sunday 1 July at the Humber Bridge.
Councillor Terry Geraghty, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, said:
"Sky Ride Local is a fantastic way of getting together with friends and family and meeting new people. We have some excellent traffic free cycle routes in the city and surrounding area and these events are a great way to see some lovely scenery and get fit at the same time all for free. We want to encourage people to get fitter and events like this are a great way of people trying out a new activity.
"I hope people will join us on our Sky Ride Local events as part of the city's warm up to Sky Ride Hull on 19 August."
Mel Hudson, British Cycling Officer for Hull, added:
"Sky Ride Local rides are a great way to see the city for free. This year there's also some great gifts on offer for children aged 15 and under who come on the rides which vary depending on how many rides they take part in. This could include a goody bag, LED light or, if they take part in three rides, they will get a fab hoody.
"People could join in a gentle ride around East Park, ride half-way to Hornsea, the Zebra's to the Alpacas - a lovely ride from Pearson Park to East Park and back, or stronger rides can ride to the Ferry, Fort and Lighthouse."
