Best of British - Artsweek Family Festival 2012 - 13/06/2012
Kingswood College of Arts is looking forward to welcoming local families to its Artsweek Festival on Friday 13 July. Up and coming band "Tilly" will take to the stage, and there will be performances by Kingswood students and staff, as well as a range of community artists.

The event kicks off at 3.45pm and evening's programme will centre around a professional outdoor stage within the school's large enclosed tennis courts. As well as the performances, there will be stalls and attractions, including a climbing wall and bouncy castle - and a traditional barbecue.

Entry is only £2 per person, which includes the stage entertainment and food from the barbecue. Tickets for the event will be available from the school's community learning centre from mid-June, or families can just turn up and pay on the door. The entertainment will end at around 6.30pm.

Artsweek organiser, Amy Savage, said:

"The Kingswood Family Festival is a fitting end to Artsweek, which always proves to be a triumph of creativity and collaboration. The timetable is suspended for the week so that all students can participate in week-long artistic projects of their choosing, and work towards an exciting end of week presentation, performance, or exhibition. During Artsweek the whole school buzzes with creative energy and feedback is always positive."

This year's projects include dance, the movies, architecture, basket-ball and British pub memorabilia - to name but a few - and will see students working with students and staff they might not normally come into contact with.

Deputy Headteacher, Jade Driscoll, added:

"Artsweek gives students more responsibility for their learning, enhances staff-student relationships, and is an opportunity to promote creativity across the curriculum. This philosophy aligns with our vision for learning in the new Kingswood Academy, where we will be will be transforming the learning experience for all of our students, so that they are properly equipped for future learning and successful careers. We want to create learners who can think independently, undertake research, solve problems, and work successfully as part of a team - and Artsweek helps us do this."
