Sirius Academy rated excellent - twice - 06/06/2012
The team behind one of the newest additions to Hull's educational landscape were celebrating this month as two sets of judges gave the new Sirius Academy with Ganton Special School the thumbs up.
Balfour Beatty Limited, responsible for the delivery of the £48.5m building in West Hull as well as Kelvin Hall School and Christopher Pickering Primary School, came away from the fifth annual South Yorkshire & Humber Building Excellence Awards with the prize for projects that are valued at over £1 million.
Phil Parker, Building Control Manager for Hull City Council commented, "The evening was a huge success and enjoyed by all. I thank all 250 people that attended the event, the sponsors, the nominees and the winners. As well as rewarding these fantastic projects and developing awareness of Local Authority Building Control, we have raised a healthy sum for the event charity, the Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice."
This highly prestigious award for Balfour Beatty Limited followed the equally impressive certification of the school as 'Excellent' according to the BREEAM standard. BREEAM is the world's foremost method for assessing environmental performance by analysing and scoring the processes involved with the design, construction and operation of a building.
Paul Clegg, BSF Manager for Hull City Council said:
"For Sirius Academy with Ganton School to have been rated Excellent twice is testament to the strong public/private partnerships on which Hull BSF is built. Balfour Beatty can be justifiably proud of their work in building the school and the quality of the legacy they have left behind."
