Celebrating 15 years of Shop Ahoy - 06/06/2012
Shop Ahoy - Visit Hull and East Yorkshire's special shopping experience for group excursions to the city - is celebrating 15 years.

Launched in 1997 the Shop Ahoy package was originally designed to encourage coach and tour operators to visit the city. The package has gone from strength to strength, with Visit Hull and East Yorkshire since extending the day package to include Beverley and Bridlington. In 2011 the economic impact of coach visitors in the region was well in excess of £2 million.

This unique package, offers excellent service and has played a part in Visit Hull and East Yorkshire being awarded Friendliest Group Visitor Destination 2010 in Group Travel Organiser Magazine Industry Awards and Best Tourist Board in 2009 and 2011 in Group Leisure Magazines Industry Awards.

Councillor Terry Geraghty, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, said:

"Congratulations to the Shop Ahoy team for 15 successful years or running the package. Hull has some excellent shops, superb sightseeing opportunities such as our free museums, The Deep and the Fish Trail as well as events such as the Jazz Festival.

"Shop Ahoy is a good way of encouraging more people to visit Hull to see what we have to offer and hopefully dispel any misconceptions they may have had. By having more group excursions into the city it will help our local economy and workforce to grow along with helping to generate a more positive view of our wonderful city."

As part of the Shop Ahoy package visitors can have a morning coffee, a guided tour of the city with one of our knowledgeable English Heritage Accredited Tour Guides, lunch at the venue of their choice plus free time to go shopping, sightseeing or taking in a new attraction.
