Electric designer car comes to Streetlife - 29/05/2012

Hull's Streetlife Museum and Evans Halshaw are helping to raise awareness of environmentally sustainable transport by displaying Renault's exciting new electric car, the Twizy.

As an exciting concept car and future design icon, the Twizy is sure to cause a stir in the museum during half-term. This new 100% electrical powered 'bubble-car' will be taking pride of place in the entrance hall of the Streetlife Museum for three weeks from 1st June.

Streetlife has a unique collection of early motor cars, including a Cleveland Battery-Electric car: the world's first electric vehicle, made in the USA in 1901. This will provide a fascinating look into just how far the electric car has come since its first inception over a century ago.

Robin Diaper, Curator of Maritime & Social History, said:

"We are very excited to have this striking looking car on display at Streetlife, and very grateful to Evans Halshaw Renault at Hull for the loan. Innovative cars like this are museum artefacts of the future, especially ones pioneering the way into more reliable and sustainable methods of transport."

As the Twizy shows, environmentally friendly cars are starting to become increasingly advanced and a popular choice in the automotive industry. This is just the beginning of a 'green' revolution.

Martin Budd, Environment and Climate Change Strategic Advisor for Hull City Council said:

"It's really great that the Museum will be displaying one of the new generation electric cars from Renault. Hull has a long history of electric vehicle use and we have over 30 electric charging points in the City at George Street car park and St Stephens. Electric vehicles will provide one of the key travel solutions for the future so this is a great chance for residents to see the new technology."
