Join Hull Freedom Chorus in welcoming the Olympic Torch to Hull - 24/05/2012
Hull Freedom Chorus would like to welcome anyone who has a love of singing, whatever their ability, to come along and be part of a unique singing experience.

A special piece of music has been written for the choir to perform at the Olympic Torch relay celebrations on Monday 18 June. The Chorus starts rehearsals this Saturday (26 May) and would like to invite anyone over the age of 14 that enjoys singing and wants to have fun to come along and get involved. Young people under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

The group's latest project will be led by the inspirational Em Whitfield Brooks, whose amazing talents made last year's projects for the Freedom Chorus such a resounding success.

Councillor Geraghty, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, said:

"Hull Gold is showcasing some of the great talent in the city and encouraging people to get involved in the vibrant mix of events taking place this summer. Hull Freedom Chorus performance for the Olympic Torch relay is a unique opportunity for people from all walks of life to get involved with arts and culture and to be part of a historic once in a lifetime event for Hull."

To join the Hull Freedom Chorus for this unique occasion, you need to be able to attend most rehearsals as well as the performance on 18 June. It is free to get involved.

You can register online or come to the early practices: www.hullcc.gov.uk/hullfreedomchorus

Practices for the Torch piece will take place at the Endsleigh Centre, Beverley Road on:

Saturday 26 May 10am to 1pm
Wednesday 30 May 6:15 to 8:30pm
Wednesday 13 June 6:15 to 8:30pm
Saturday 16 June 1pm to 4pm

Singing is good for you; it is uplifting and is a great way to meet new people. It's a great confidence booster and good for your wellbeing. But mainly, singing in such a big group, with an inspiring leader like Em, is fantastic fun.

There's more to come later in the summer when Hull Freedom Chorus goes Jazz as part of the Hull Jazz Festival in July - register now if you want to take part.
