The Diamond Jubilee marks 60 years of The Queen's reign and is a once in a lifetime event. To celebrate the occasion Hull City Council is encouraging people to come into the city centre to experience a day of fun and entertainment which people of all ages will remember.
On Monday 4th June there will be an array of events, activities and entertainment in the city to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
Celebrations begin at 1pm with dance, music and children's activities in Queens Gardens. Activities include a climbing wall, crazy golf, inflatable slide, football shoot outs, traditional garden games, a circus skills workshop, craft workshops and donkey rides. In Queen Victoria Square there will be games for people to take part in, like egg and spoon races, sack and three-legged races!
The Lord Mayor's Parade will take place from Hull College at 1.30pm. Colourful stilt walkers, dance troupes and people in vibrant costumes will dance, walk and parade around the city centre streets creating a carnival atmosphere.
The Lord Mayor, Councillor Brown said:
"It will be a day that will see the city come to life and I hope to see many residents, and people visiting the city, enjoy the celebrations. People can get involved with activities or enjoy the atmosphere and watch the colourful parade, music events and spectacular laser show. It will be a day to remember!"
Families can either picnic in the quieter Guildhall Road area where we'll have a line of tables and chairs all decorated ready for use - or pick up a table and chairs or themed picnic sheet from us and enjoy the atmosphere in the gardens! . Whether you are bringing your own picnic or using the city centres catering outlets, the Council hope lots of people get involved with the city's Big Picnic!
A COOLture event will be taking place between 2.30pm and 5pm at the City Hall. The dazzling multi-cultural event will showcase a range of music and dance performances as well as workshops that children and young people can get involved in. COOLture will see community and youth groups come together to celebrate cultural Hull.
For people who enjoy being creative, there are Jubilee themed craft workshops throughout the afternoon at Ferens Art Gallery.
The star-studded Diamond Jubilee Concert taking place in London will be broadcast from a big screen in Queens Gardens between 7pm and 10.15pm. The concert is going to be one of the most spectacular ever staged in the UK with some of the biggest names from the world's music, dance and musical theatre performing.
The finale of the celebrations will be the lighting of a beacon at 10.15pm in Queens Gardens to mark the Queens 60 year reign. This will be followed by a spectacular laser light display where coloured laser light will be beamed into the sky above the Gardens.
