Ssshhh Noise Action Week is here - 21/05/2012
Hull City Council is supporting Noise Action Week from 21 - 25 May by raising awareness of the issues that excessive noise can cause, encouraging people to keep noise to a reasonable level and consider their neighbours and family members.

Excessive noise can make life miserable, from noisy neighbours, barking dogs, and traffic disturbance to unattended burglar alarms, outdoor entertainment, industry and construction sites.

The Public Protection team take a step by step approach to resolving noise nuisance complaints. Firstly, warning letters and advice on reducing the level of noise will be sent and if there is no improvement abatement notices will be issued.

However, in some rare cases further action is needed and this results in confiscation of the noise equipment as well as prosecutions.

In the last year, the Public Protection team received 1,700 complaints about noise nuisance and has taken the following enforcement action;

1,498 warning letters sent
73 Noise Abatement Notices were served
7 prosecutions were taken through the court - all of which were successful
5 seizures of noise equipment
Councillor John Hewitt, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood and Communities, said:
"We're involved in Noise Action Week because we want to highlight solutions to noise problems and raise awareness of how excessive noise can affect communities and individuals.

"We hope that the launch of the new noise leaflet will help people who are experiencing noise nuisance of how to complain and highlighting the action that can be taken to stop this from happening."
