Give shape to Olympic Torch Route artwork - 15/05/2012
A local artist and Hull City Council's City Arts Team are asking the community to get involved by creating a shape for a collaborative artwork for the Olympic Torch Relay route.
Hull artist, Arran Todd, is asking people to share a shape that is unique to them to create a huge multi-coloured artwork.
Arran is collecting the shapes which he will transfer on to coloured vinyl, to be assembled into one huge artwork to create an impact in a prominent location on Holderness Road.
Arran is undertaking this mass collaboration art project as part of Hull City Council's Hull Gold 2012 programme to allow people from all parts of the community to take part in something related to the Olympic Torch Relay.
The final work will show a diversity of form which reflects diverse elements which combine to make a unique whole. Arran will use artistic discretion and judgement in relation to the transferring of shapes into the final piece.
To make your contribution is easy. Just draw your shape on a piece of paper, include your name, and deposit it in the box at Hull City Council's Customer Service Centre or Asda on Holderness Road. Alternatively you can e-mail a copy of your shape design to Arran at: Arran.Todd@gmail.com. Only one shape per person will be accepted.
But hurry if you wish to take part as the deadline for submitting shapes is Monday 28 May 2012.
Councillor Terry Geraghty, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture:
"Arran's work will add a new dimension for people to get involved in as part of Hull Gold in preparation for the Olympic Torch relay.
"The artwork will bring together something from any number of contributors, so get involved, make a shape and get it to Arran to work his magic to create an impact artwork for people to see during the relay.
