Outgoing Lord Mayor conducts his last Citizenship ceremony - 15/05/2012
The Lord Mayor of Hull, Councillor Colin Inglis will be holding his last Citizenship Ceremony on Wednesday 16th May before his time in Civic Office comes to an end and the City's 100th Lord Mayor is installed. During his year as Lord Mayor, Councillor Inglis has welcomed more than 500 foreign nationals as British Citizens at ceremonies in the Guildhall.
New citizens have come from most of the countries in the world and not only include those citizens from war torn countries such as Afghanistan and Iraq, but also those citizens settling here from choice, such as now local sportsmen doctors, engineers and other professional bodies.
Lord Mayor, Councilor Colin Inglis said:
"The ceremonies are a time for celebration and provide an opportunity to officially welcome new citizens as full members of their local community. We hope the ceremonies encourage citizens to get involved in local community life. We have seen many new citizens achieve great success for the city, such as Ali Ibrahim, a teenager born in Gaza who has gone on to be an outstanding player for Hull FC Under 18's. "
Ali Ibrahim joined Hull FC three years ago as a scholarship player, before progressing into the club's Under 18's side. He has also enjoyed representative honors since being at the club, including playing for the England Youth team, following in the footsteps of now famous FC stars such as Tom Briscoe and Danny Houghton.
