Opera singers to surprise shoppers by bursting into song - 14/05/2012
Professional opera singers will be surprising shoppers by bursting into song in the city centre on Tuesday morning.
The singers will be giving people a taste of what they can experience at the Lord Mayor's Music in the Gardens concert which takes place between 1.30pm and 8pm on Sunday 20th May in Queens Gardens.
On Tuesday Lee Tsang, who is the Director of Performance and Engagement at Hull University, will be performing Figaro from the Barber of Seville, which is Rossini's most famous opera. Pam Waddington Muse, a mezzo soprano, will also serenade shoppers in Princes Quay, St.Stephens and Queen Victoria Square.
As a guide performance times are:
11am: St.Stephens towards the rear
11.45am: Queen Victoria Square
12.30pm: Princes Quay
The Lord Mayor's Music in the Gardens Concert on Sunday 20th May will be a spectacular day of music to celebrate the Lord Mayor's commitment to the arts and the community. It will feature some of the finest and most popular orchestral and operatic favourites and will introduce a few lesser known pieces. The concert will be a spectacle for the eyes and ears for people of all ages to enjoy. People are invited to bring along blankets and picnics and enjoy a relaxing afternoon listening to some of the best music the region has to offer.
The timetable for the Concert on Sunday 20th May is as follows:
1.30-2.00pm Jazz at the Bandstand, featuring students from the University of Hull
2.00-4.15pm The Main Event - Hull Sinfonietta
With Sarah Leonard - the voice of 'Silencium' as featured on BBC's Silent Witness
Hull Sinfonietta is the largest professional chamber ensemble within Humber region.
