Press Releases In Health And Social Care

Hull embraces fostering fortnight - 14/05/2012
Hull City Council's Foster Care Fortnight campaign, from Monday 14 May, hopes to raise the profile of fostering and encourage potential foster carers to come forward.

Running from 14 to 27 May, Foster Care Fortnight will see the council's fostering team out and about in the city with information stalls where people can find out more about fostering. They will be at the following locations on:

Saturday 19 May 9 am - 4.30pm - North Point Shopping Centre, Bransholme
Saturday 26 May, 9am - 4.30pm - ASDA, Kingswood.
Saturday 9 June, 9am - 4.30pm - ASDA, Goole

In Hull, there are 325 foster carers looking after over 496 children and young people, but there is always the need for more carers to come forward.

Councillor Helene O'Mullane, Hull City Council's Portfolio Holder for Children's Services, said: "I am very proud to support Foster Care Fortnight. Foster carers support many of the most vulnerable children of Hull. I applaud their dedication to changing futures and hope many more people consider fostering."

Jacquie Edhouse, Manager for the council's fostering team, added: "Too many people rule themselves out of being foster carers, despite being very interested in fostering.

"We don't exclude anyone from consideration as a foster carer on the grounds of sexual orientation, race, marital status, gender, disability or employment status. Our foster carers come from a whole range of backgrounds; the main thing is that you are able to give children and young people the care and support they need to be happy and fulfilled."

Anyone interested in finding out more about fostering can visit the fostering pages at www.hullcc.gov.uk or phone 01482 300300 and request or Hull Fostering. In addition, Hull Fostering Team can also be found on Facebook.
