Unveiling of the replacement Voyage statue on Hull's Victoria Pier will take place this Friday at 11.00am.
Icelandic Ambassador Benedikt Jonsson, the creator of the statue sculptor Steinunn Thorarinsdottir and British Ambassador Ian Whitting will unveil the statue along with the Lord Mayor of Hull, Councillor Colin Inglis.
The monument represents people who made their living on the sea, and the seafarers who lost their lives. It looks out over the Humber; its eyes following the direction Hull trawlers would take on their way to Iceland.
Businesses and people with links to the fishing industry have been invited to attend the unveiling and a delegation of Icelandic owned businesses and local businesses will also attend a business lunch, which looks to strengthen trading links between the two regions.
Lord Mayor, Councillor Colin Inglis said:
"Civic and trade links with Iceland are very important to us, and we look forward to welcoming the Icelandic Ambassador and businesses for the unveiling and lunch. We also look forward to strengthening our trade ties to help achieve the maximum business benefits for both regions."
