Lord Mayor to open world leading graphic design company in The Maltings - 08/05/2012
The Lord Mayor, Colin Inglis, officially opens the new Hull branch of international business SGS (Southern Graphic Systems) on Thursday. The American founded company launches in The Maltings, on the old Anchor Brewery site and it will be the sixth UK site for SGS Europe, which is a part of SGS International. It will be named 'SGS The Maltings'.
The business provides over 150 highly skilled jobs in the city and will provide excellent prospects for graduates.
Lord Mayor, Colin Inglis, said:
"SGS choosing Hull as a base shows confidence in the city as a place to live, work and do business. The company will join a number of other businesses based here that trade internationally, raising Hull's profile and helping with its regeneration."
SGS is the world leader in the production and management of packaging communications. It has over 60 years' experience serving the print, retail and consumer goods markets, and the company's operations are located across North America, Europe and Asia.
The company originally opened in Hull in 2005 and expanded in 2008, moving into a brand new facility in Priory Park, but further expansion has meant that new larger premises were required.
SGS Managing Director, Brian McGrath said:
"Having been awarded a further multi-million pound contract last year which effectively quadruples turnover for SGS in Hull, we needed larger premises. The four storey building, which has lain dormant since 1985 when brewing ceased at the Victorian listed site, has been redeveloped and also has space for further expansion in the future."
Councilor Bayes, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration and Employment, said:
"The Council is committed to attracting and supporting businesses and it is excellent to see such a major employer invest in the city. By private and public sectors working together we can create more jobs, encourage investment and see the city flourish."
