Foredyke Primary School is having a double celebration - not only has the school come out of special measures it has also received 'good' and 'outstanding' judgements in its latest Ofsted report.
The headteacher, staff, governors, parents and pupils at the Preston Road school in Hull are delighted with their latest Ofsted report - just 15 months after it was put in special measures.
Last month (March 2012) the school had an Ofsted Section 5 inspection which brought the school out of special measures. The inspection report highlighted that the inspection found that the 'outstanding leadership, effective governance and the clear and decisive direction provided by a knowledgeable, dedicated and committed staff team has secured rapid improvement.' It also stated that 'the leadership of teaching and learning and the management of performance is outstanding. Consequently Foredyke now provides its pupils with a good quality, well rounded educational experience and an equal opportunity to do well.'
Elaine Butler, Executive Headteacher at the school, said:
"I would like say a huge thank you to everyone involved in the change in fortunes of the school. The improvements have taken place in a very short time thanks to the hard work and unwavering commitment of staff, governors, parents and children as well as support from Hull City Council.
"The unique partnership we have as a federation between Thanet and Foredyke primary schools has also been a major factor in improvements. I would like to give a special mention to Jacky Abbott, Head of School for Foredyke and the excellent work she has done for the school. And, parents and pupils can rest assured that the two schools will be continuing to work as a team to ensure a bright future for all of our children."
Vanessa Harvey-Samuel, Head of Localities and Learning at Hull City Council, added:
"This is excellent news for the school.
"It reflects the excellent team work and the commitment of all the staff and, as the report highlights, outstanding leadership of Mrs Butler to provide the best possible education for the children of Foredyke. We want the very best for our children and young people and this new way of working has proved to be an important step for primary education in Hull."
In a letter to pupils Ofsted Inspector Wendy Ripley, who carried out the inspection, highlighted that the 'headteacher leads the school exceptionally well and is helped in this by all staff and governors'. She adds that she was also impressed by 'excellent attendance' and good behaviour' and that pupils are 'taught well' in a school where learning is 'exciting and fun.'
In 2010 Mrs Butler, who has been the headteacher at Thanet Primary school, Bilton Grange, for 15 years, was approached by the governors of Foredyke and Hull City Council with a request for the school to federate with Thanet. Following a period of consultation the two schools joined together to become the city's first federation working alongside one another with a shared executive headteacher and governing body.
Working as a federation has seen the schools offering support to each other and drawing on the strengths that they each offer. The school also received additional support from Hull City Council.
