Come along and listen to music in Queens Gardens this summer - 30/04/2012
The bandstand in Queens Gardens will be playing host to several bands this summer so grab your chairs and picnics and head down to enjoy some free live music in the sunshine.
This bank holiday weekend the country's oldest band will play on the bandstand. Humberside Police Concert Band celebrated its 150th year last year and its versatility and popularity is renowned across the country. The band's success has also seen it play for Her Majesty the Queen at both the Silver and Golden Jubilee events.
The band will perform a variety of music including selections from musicals The Wizard of OZ, Oliver and Phantom of the Opera, on Saturday 5th May between 1pm and 3pm.
This is part of a series of free music events taking place from the bandstand over the summer months. On the first Saturday of every month between 1pm and 3pm there will be music performances for people to enjoy.
Hull City Council is also offering use of the bandstand to community groups, charities, schools, civic events and other similar groups who wish to entertain the public. For full event listings or to book the bandstand, call 300300 or visit: www.hullcc.gov.uk/events
Also taking place this summer is the Lord Mayor's Orchestral Concert: Music in the Gardens.
On Sunday 20th May, Music in the Gardens will see professional operatic singers and musicians perform. The focus of the event will be a concert by Hull Sinfonietta, which is the largest professional chamber ensemble within the Humber region. The concert will be a spectacle for the eyes and ears for people of all ages to enjoy.
