Pink pools to make a Big Splash - 24/04/2012
Swimmers across Hull will be able to make a Big Splash after their pools became part of the nation's biggest ever swimming campaign on April 28 and 29.

Hull City Council has joined forces with British Swimming and the BBC to deliver the Big Splash and inspire the nation to swim.

All Hull's council owned swimming pools - East Hull Pools, Woodford Leisure Centre, Ennerdale Leisure Centre, Albert Avenue Pools and Beverley Road Baths - are taking part by putting on a range of fun games and activities and dying our pools bright pink!

Hull's Big Splash is part of Hull Gold 2012 year of sporting and cultural events in the city offering activities of local, national and international importance for people to 'get involved' in.

Each session costs just £1 per person, so why not get involved and make a big splash?

Pool users can also benefit from the swimming tips and swimming training programmes at www.bigsplash.co.uk

The Big Splash will be featured on the BBC Television, Radio and Online on a number of high profile programmes.

Double Olympic champion Becky Adlington is supporting the campaign: "Swimming is my life but just getting in the pool a couple of times a week is a really great way of getting active and staying healthy. I'm right behind anything that encourages people to take the plunge and swim more often."

Councillor Terry Geraghty, portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture said: "This is an event of national significance but one that local people can get involved with at one of our five pools.

"This event is the last of several sporting events April as part of the Hull Gold offer and we hope people take the chance to get involved with the activities over the weekend and enjoy the pink pools."
