Press Releases In Education And Learning

Time for 'tee' at golf open day - 20/04/2012
Amateur golfers, or those who have thought about taking up the game, can get professional help and advice at a Golf Open Day this weekend.

The Open Day, on Sunday 22 April, 2pm - 6pm at Springhead Golf Course, has been organised by Hull City Council in association with the Golf Foundation, Sportability, Total Golf Centres and Rich Pace Golf/One Stop Golf.

Professional PGA players Tony Haworth and Richard Pace will be on hand for free five to 10 minute quick fix lessons for people who visit on the day. There will also be golfing games and exercises for all ages including under 18s. Council officers, and golf club representatives will be on hand to talk to people about how they could join the clubs or other leisure options available.

Activities will also include:

- Tri Golf: a fun and safe way for all ages to play with lightweight, bright coloured plastic clubs with sponge and velcro balls.

- Golf Extreme: metal clubs and lightweight balls that travel 30 per cent of the distance a real golf ball would making it a safe but realistic way to play
Competitions during the day will also include the 'longest and straightest drive' and putting contests.

Gabriel Sikanku who attended a previous open day said: "I have never played golf so this was great for me. A chance to be introduced to golf with tips and advice along with equipment to use. I like trying new sports and enjoyed the chance to try golf."

Hayley Brookes, who took four children ranging from two to 10 years, added: "This was fantastic for them all, especially Warren (4) who didn't want to leave. Warren's favourite part was all of the activities, especially the TRI GOLF chipping game."
