World Book Night - 18/04/2012
Hull City Council is encouraging people of all ages to take part in the second World Book Night on Monday 23rd April. To celebrate the enjoyment of books and reading Hull Central Library have organised author talks, creative crafts and interactive games for the family. Author talks and activities will take place at Central Library between 6pm and 10pm.

Children, young people, adults and families are invited to attend to listen to authors:

Geoffrey Waters who is the author of The Larkin Trail - he will be talking about his sketchbook and the walk which was developed from these sketches to commemorate Philip Larkin's birthday.
Victoria Harper and Honor Pallant- launching a new book published by Kingston Press called the Life and Times of James Reckitt.
Annabel Pitcher - author of My Sister Lives on the Mantlepiece which has been shortlisted in the Hull Children's Book award and for the Carnegie Medal. This is her first novel and it is unusual for a first author to be shortlisted for this prestigious prize.

John Fareham - author of the new book about Guy Gibson "Guy Gibson VC" part of the "Heroes of the RAF series".
Nick Quantrill - local crime author who will be present to sign books
Alec Gill - local history author
Audrey Dunne - local author and poet
There will also be a range of activities throughout the evening for children and adults to take part in including origami, samba sessions, and a family quiz hosted by Cat in the Hat! The family favourites interactive quiz is brought to you by Spin Off and Eon Media. Places for the quiz are limited so booking is essential on 01482 210000.

Children can enjoy Sam's Safari storytelling and a chance to meet special animal guests, whilst adults can take part in book sculpture creations.

There will also be a library Riddle Trail - a fun, free treasure hunt which focuses on the importance of heart health. This is part of the Arts from the Heart interactive project, which is a partnership between Hull City Council, NHS Hull and Artlink, and is a part of Healthy Lives Hull.

Places for many activities are limited so you are advised to book your place with the Central Library on telephone number 01482 210000.

People attending will have an opportunity to select a free book at the end of the evening.

Sue Richmond, Principal Librarian at Hull Central Library said:

"We are really excited about the second World Book Night. It was a huge success last year with over 100 people attending, so we are hoping to encourage more people to come along to this year's events"
