Calling all Hull's young enterprise stars - 13/04/2012
Enterprising young people in Hull could help their school win an award as the search gets underway to find the rising stars and to nominate their schools
Hull schools and their students are being encouraged to nominate for the awards so in return they could find themselves gaining a cash investment to further develop enterprising activity.
The awards which are run by the council's Hull Training team, in partnership with the John Cracknell Youth Enterprise Bank, are sponsoring the awards.
Mike Notarantonio Hull Ready Office for the council, said:
"This is an opportunity for the Hull Youth Enterprise Partnership to recognise the work that goes on in the city and to help our young people to develop their enterprising idea.
"We want Hull to be seen as a place for inspiring creativity and we want these awards to act as an incentive for all to take part."
The deadline for entering the awards is by 1 October and awards categories include:
Most enterprising primary school in Hull
Most enterprising secondary school in Hull
Most enterprising teacher in Hull
The business that has done the most to promote enterprise in a sustainable way in schools and or with a Post 16 provider
The individual business person that has done the most to support enterprise education
Special Enterprise Award
Stephen Logan, Hull's Most Enterprising Teacher 2011, of Malet Lambert School, said:
"It was a great honour last year to be announced as the first recipient of the title of Hull's Most Enterprising Teacher 2011 and I am pleased that this year it will go ahead thanks to the support of Hull City Council's Hull Training and the city's Youth Enterprise Bank.
"There is no doubt that Hull as a city has real commitment through the Youth Enterprise Partnership to develop the enterprising skills of young people. It never ceases to amaze me how, with the right support and encouragement our young people are truly enterprising. Whilst not all will go on to be entrepreneurs of the future they certainly will be more enterprising in their outlook and in the workplace."
Claire Young, BBC Apprentice star and businesswoman added:
"It is always a pleasure and a privilege to support Hull in the way it supports its enterprising young people; your city certainly believes in putting its energies behind its young people and not just paying lip service to enterprise.
"The work that partners doing in your city is absolutely brilliant. I was pleased to see that the work of your Youth Enterprise Bank, that links up with Teenbiz, has helped in lobbying Government that has secured the idea of the proposed Youth Enterprise Loan Scheme following consultation that you organised. I look forward to helping identify this years winners of your youth enterprise awards."
Global Entrepreneurship Week takes place from 12 - 18 November with the winners being announced at an event at the University of Hull.
Deadline for entry is 1 October and judging will be completed by 10 October. The awards will take place at the celebration event for Global Entrepreneurship Week on 16 November at the Staff House, University of Hull.
The winner will receive an engraved plaque and £250 to further develop their enterprise activity.
Nomination forms are available from charles.cracknell@hullcc.gov.uk or by contacting 01482 300 300.
