Titanic centenary marked by Honour and Glory exhibition at Maritime Museum - 10/04/2012
Hull's Maritime Museum is commemorating the centenary of the Titanic tragedy with an exhibition of items linked to the infamous ship.
On April 10, 1912, the RMS Titanic set sail from Southampton on its maiden voyage to New York before it sank after hitting an iceberg on April 15. This free exhibition, which runs from Saturday 5 May to Monday 27 August 2012, will allow visitors to learn more about this legendary ship and see genuine artefacts linked to the RMS Titanic, it's crew and the White Star Line.
Items on display will include a poignant gold pocket watch left behind in Southampton by a waiter on board the Titanic, a lettercard posted from the ship and first class crockery on board during the ship's sea trials. Also on display will be original fittings from the Titanic's sister ship, the RMS Olympic.
Robin Diaper, Curator of Maritime and Social History, said:
"We are delighted to be able to host this exhibition during such an important anniversary year for the Titanic. This is a rare opportunity to get close to genuine artefacts linked to the Titanic and the White Star Line."
