Householder fined #340 for failing to clean up dog mess in garden - 05/04/2012
Hull City Council is urging dog owners to clean up after their dogs following the latest prosecution for allowing dog faeces to accumulate in a properties garden.

Mr Alexander Mark Hunter from Newstead Street, Hull did not clean up after his dog and the dog mess accumulated in the garden. Mr Hunter was requested to clear the land but failed to do so. The Council cleared the resident's garden on 10 October 2011.

Mr Hunter failed to attend Hull Magistrates Court on 26 March 2012 and in his absence was found guilty a Statutory Notice serviced under section 80 Environmental Protection Act 1990, contrary to section 79 (1) Environmental Protection Act 1990. Mr Hunter was fined £175, costs £150 and a victim surcharge £15.

Justine Mortimer, Hull City Council's Neighbourhood Nuisance Manager, said:

"Mr Hunter did not take responsibility for his dog and the mess in his garden. Residents and neighbours should not tolerate this kind of behaviour in their neighbourhood.

"Failing to clean up your dogs mess is a concern for residents and we will take action against those who don't."

To help tackle this issue people are being asked to report anyone they see allowing their dog to foul and not clean it up by calling 01482 300 300, visit any customer service centre, online at www.hullcc.gov.uk or email enviro.crime@hullcc.gov.uk
