As Monday (27 February) is the first day back from half term, Hull City Council wants to highlight how important the school crossing patrols are in keeping children safe throughout the city.
The Council's 60 school crossing patrols, are thanking the drivers who help them do their job.
Maria Raper has been part of the school crossing patrol team for over twenty years and is committed to keeping pedestrians safe on their way to and from school.
Maria Raper, School Crossing Patrol lady, said:
"Most drivers are really helpful and courteous. They obviously care about the safety of the children and want to make their journey to school safer. We'd like to thank them for stopping!
"There's a small number of drivers who don't stop and is a danger to pedestrians. I love my job and I want drivers to know we are just doing our job and keeping pedestrians safe."
Councillor Martin Mancey, Portfolio Holder of Environment and Transport, said:
"I encourage all drivers to stop and allow pedestrians (including adults) to cross safely, some roads are very busy and it only takes 30 seconds for them to cross the road.
"Sadly some drivers don't appear to care about the safety of children crossing our roads but we'd like to be positive about the vast majority of drivers who do. Well done!"
