Advance viewing for school staff at Andrew Marvell College - 17/02/2012
TEACHERS from Andrew Marvell College have been given a sneak preview of the new school, which is being built by construction company Morgan Sindall, part of the Hull Esteem Consortium under the Building Schools for the Future programme (BSF).

Staff working in the temporary buildings at the Barham Road site in east Hull were shown around the new development by Morgan Sindall's project manager, Roy Perry.

They were given a glimpse of the fantastic new building which will be home to first class teaching facilities which are set to boost the educational aspirations of hundreds of the city's youngsters for generations.

Roy Perry said: "It is incredibly important to offer staff at the school the opportunity to see the developments on site.

"At Morgan Sindall we understand that for staff who continue to work in a school located next to a building site, it can sometimes be difficult. Therefore, we do our upmost to ensure that the disruption to day-to-day school life is minimal.

"We hope by showing the staff around the site, they will appreciate just what will be on offer when they move across in January next year."

Lucy Moore, acting head of science, said: "The new building looks absolutely fantastic, I can see the pupils will enjoy school even more when they will be learning in such an inspiring educational environment

"The new build will bring the whole school under one roof, which will create a great sense of community and togetherness at the college. We are all eagerly anticipating being able to move in next year."

While on site, the team from Morgan Sindall have been raising money for the school's behavioural reward system.

Mr Perry said: "The recent staff site visit gave us the opportunity to handover a cheque for £200. We are pleased to be able to support the school's aspirations through the build and other projects which are being run."

Andrew Marvell College is a Foundation Trust school sponsored by the Co-operative.

The school is being built on the existing school site with all students remaining on site and accommodated safely, using additional temporary buildings, whilst the new build is taking place.

The new school will have an increased capacity for 1,300 students plus an additional space to enhance the 14-19 learning opportunity.

It has been designed to actively encourage wider participation and community use through theatre space, drama and dance studios, fitness suites, sports hall and a floodlit all weather pitch.
