Hull City Council continues its crackdown on illegal waste carriers - 12/01/2012
Hull City Council's crackdown on illegal waste carriers has led to another prosecution of an illegal waste carrier. Ian Carter (35) of East Grove, Hull was fined £150 with £450 clean up costs and a £15 victim surcharge by Hull Magistrates Court on Friday 6 January. He pleaded guilty to two separate offences under the Environment Protection Act 1990.
The prosecution followed an investigation by Hull City Council's environmental neighbourhood nuisance team after a large amount of waste had been dumped in a ten foot to the rear of Arthur Street in west Hull. Evidence found at the site was linked to Mr Carter.
Cllr John Hewitt, portfolio holder for neighbourhoods and families said: "Contractors have a legal duty to use a registered waste carrier. The law is there to protect communities from waste that may have a detrimental effect on health and safety as well as blighting the environment. When we have the evidence, we will always prosecute and I hope that when people see waste being tipped they will report it either by telephoning the Council's call centre on 300 300 or on line at www.hullcc.gov.uk".
