Lord Mayor launches new Carers' project - 29/11/2011
The Lord Mayor of Kingston upon Hull, Councillor Colin Inglis, is officially launching the new outreach project established by Carers' Centre Hull at the Guildhall on 'Carers Rights Day', Friday 2 December.
Many of the estimated 23,000 unpaid carers in Hull are set to receive far greater, more accessible support and information near to their own homes thanks to a generous five year grant from the Big Lottery Reaching Communities Fund.
Carers are people who provide unpaid support to family or friends who could not manage without this help due to illness, disability, mental ill-health or a substance misuse problem. Many do not even realise that they are a carer or that there is help available for them.
Greg Harman, Manager of Carers' Centre Hull said:
"This is wonderful news for carers in Hull. We provide support for carers at our city centre base, having done so for over 11 years, and we are now set to expand our work on a much greater scale to support many hundreds of people caring for family members or friends near where they live".
Beverley Shore, the Project Lead for this exciting new work said:
"Carers Rights Day and the Money Matters theme couldn't be more fitting to launch the new outreach project. Carers shouldn't have to struggle to find the advice and information they often have problems finding the time due to caring responsibilities. They deserve the right to be provided with the information on helpful resources and we will be doing our best to make information and advice as accessible as possible to them."
