All day free bus travel back for concessionary travel pass holders - 13/09/2011
From 1 October, Hull City Council is reinstating free, unrestricted bus travel for concessionary travel passholders.
Concessionary travel passholders will be able to board any bus, Stagecoach or EYMS, within the city boundary before 9.30am. However, the concessionary travel pass will not be valid if they get on a bus in any other local council area before 9.30am, Outside peak hours (after 9.30am) they can enjoy free travel throughout England, as part of the nationwide scheme.
Current bus passes are valid, so there is no need for people to apply for new ones.
Free peak time travel had been scrapped in January, however the decision to reinstate it was made by the new administration in its June budget.
Cllr Martin Mancey, portfolio holder for environment and transport, said. "I'm sure our older and disabled residents will be pleased that from next month they will be able to use their free bus pass to travel all day, every day without restriction. I hope this concession will encourage more people to make best use of our public transport services."
