Planning President visits Hull's regeneration showcase - 13/07/2011
The president of The Royal Town Planning Institute is today (Wednesday 13 July) visiting Hull for a showcase of how the city is transforming itself through its regeneration projects.

President Richard Summers will be met by representatives from Hull City Council including Councillor Steven Bayes, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration and Employment, Planning Committee Chairman Councillor Sean Chaytor and City Planning Manager Alex Codd.

Mr Summers will visit Newington and St Andrew's to see existing housing stock and explore the reasons behind low housing market demand, including a visit to the Amy Johnson Development site on Hawthorn Avenue to view homes under construction.

This will be followed by a visit to Woodcock Street to meet residents who have recently moved into one of the new homes developed as part of the regeneration area.

Later in the morning Mr Summers and the group will tour will tour East Hull taking in the newly constructed Archbishop Sentamu secondary school on Preston Road before finishing off his tour to view the dock estate and renewable energy proposal for the construction of wind turbines.

Councillor Steven Bayes, Portfolio Holder Economic Regeneration and Employment, said:

"This is a fantastic opportunity to show what we are doing in Hull, investment in good planning and architecture can make a real positive difference to regeneration projects.

"The opportunity to show what we are doing can not be missed, the feedback we receive will help us in future developments, regeneration projects and new building schemes."
