Families are being encouraged to spend time together and enjoy the pleasures of reading and stories during National Family Week. A number of venues across Hull will be bringing the magic of stories alive with fun and exciting storytelling sessions and activities.
Christine Hill, Strategic Library Manager for Families and Health, said:
"Hull libraries and museums are delighted to be organising such exciting events for families. We want to encourage families to spend time together and enjoy the fun of stories, so we hope that there will be activities that appeal to everyone. We look forward to seeing everyone there."
Activities taking place in Hull as part of National Family Week Storytelling Day on Wednesday 2 June include:
Anlaby Park Library - Every picture tells a story, 11am - 3pm Activities include an outdoor family play event including Scrapstore, a Robin Hood workshop, nail art, under five's play area, hands-on with microscopes and fossils. Author Michael Cox will hold a workshop at 11am and professional story teller Miles Salter will be around for the whole event.
Central Library - Every picture tells a story, 10 - 11.30am
Fun and activities, including stories and crafts for under five's and their families. Followed by crafts and activities and an information stand from the Family Information Service (FIS). Children's author, Michael Cox will also be visiting the library from 2 - 3pm. Booking is essential. Call the Central Library to book a place on 01482 210 000.
Ferens Art Gallery - Every picture tells a story, 10.30am - 3pm Come and find out about the stories behind your favourite pictures in Hull's own art gallery. Share stories and take part in the fun activities with museums staff and the family learning team.
Hull History Centre - Every picture tells a story, 10am - 3pm Hull Community Theatre and Hull Truck's youth theatre will be bringing true tales to life with performances throughout. From maritime superstitions to Hull Fair memories, the day is a chance for families to share their stories with each other as well as to those discovered in the archives of the History Centre.
Wilberforce House - African stories, 10.30am - 3pm
African stories and activities including crafts and drumming! Fun for all the family. Sessions take part throughout the day.
