Hull City Council has beaten global competition to scoop an award at a recent ceremony. - 20/11/2008
The council won an award at the recent Axios Customer Excellence Awards, which celebrated organisations' use of IT help desk software, Assyst.
Winning the award for Most Innovative Use of Assyst, the council saw off competition from the Canadian Air Force and the Shop Direct Group (Littlewoods).
To win the award the council demonstrated how the Assyst software had been developed and implemented to help teams across the council improve service delivery. This included using Assyst's online contact facility to make requests or to log a problem in their area.
Councillor Abigail Walker, portfolio holder for customer and corporate services, said: "I am delighted that the council has won this award.
"Our internal customers are as important as our external ones and without the support provided by the Assyst system, we would not be able to deliver our services as efficiently and effectively as we can to the city's residents."
As part of its presentation to judges, the council showed how the software had helped to solve two challenges. The first was to improve the efficiency of the IT environment and the second was to combine databases from a number of key areas into one to enhance the accuracy of stored information. These improvements were made across areas included human resources, ICT (Information Communications Technology), occupational safety, property, building cleaning and procurement.
Paul Gordon, head of shared support services at the council, added: "By putting the Assyst software in place, we have seen the proportion of staff logging faults or making requests online increase from 15 per cent to 70 per cent. This has increased the speed at which problems are solved as well as reducing the cost of delivering our IT service and improving security.
"We are now looking into other ways in which we can use this software to help the council to continue to improve its services."
The award was presented to Steve Moffat by Tasos Symeonides CEO (Chief Executive Officer) at the Global User Group Conference in Edinburgh.
