Our permanent collection spans the medieval period to the present day.
Galleries 1 and 2 - European Old Masters
These galleries display works from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. The star painting of the collection is undoubtedly Frans Hals’ masterpiece 'Portrait of a Young Woman' (1660s).
Galleries 3 and 5 - 18th Century
These gallerieis include works of art from the 18th century such as, 'A View on the Grand Canal' (1728) by the celebrated Venetian view painter Antonio Canaletto (1697-1768) and a cloud study attributed to John Constable (1776-1837).
Galleries 5 and 6 - Victorian and Edwardian
These galleries contain a wide range of works by artists such as Lady Elizabeth Butler (1846-1933), the most successful war artist of the era, Charles Spencelayh (1865-1958) and Fred Elwell (1870-1958).
Gallery 10 - Children's Gallery, Marines and Local Views
The innovative Children's Gallery uses interactive exhibits to encourage children to develop an interest in art. The series of local views traces the history of Hull from Medieval times to the present day.
Gallery 11 - Early 20th Century British
This upstairs gallery traces the development of British painting during the first half of the 20th century.
Galleries 4, 8 and 9 - temporary exhibitions

Showcases works from the latter half of the 20th century and contemporary acquisitions.
