Mobile phone safety

Keep your phone safe

  • Don't carry your phone where it can easily be seen - like dangling from your belt or out of your pocket.
  • Don't leave your phone unattended - like in your bag or in a car.
  • Switch your phone off when you're in school; even better don't take it at all unless you really need to.
  • Use your pin number to lock your phone when you're not using it. And keep your pin number secret!
  • Know what you’re getting into if you download a ringtone or text alert – it might not be the only thing you'll be charged for. Read the small print or if it doesn’t make sense get someone else to read it too.

Tips on dealing with nasty texts and silent phone calls

  • If you think you know who’s sending them, send them a text saying they’re breaking the law.
  • Keep the texts as proof that you’ve been getting them.
  • If you get silent phone calls just put the phone down and tell someone you trust. The person doing it wants to scare you so don’t let them know they have.
  • Tell someone who can help, you could call The Community Anti-bullying Project's helpline - 08009 154545 or children and young people's services anti-bullying project – 01482 616 660.
